A physician’s perspective on the work of leadership
Peter Valenzuela, MD, MBA is a family physician and healthcare executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience across integrated health systems and multispecialty medical groups. His work spans physician leadership development, medical-group strategy and operations, quality improvement, and physician–administrator collaboration.
His previous roles include President of INTEGRIS Health Medical Group, where he directed strategy and operations for a 600-member multispecialty medical group, and Chief Medical Officer of Dignity Health–Mercy Medical Group, which included 525 providers.
MGMA-ACMPE has recognized Peter with the Harwick Innovation Award and Physician Executive of the Year Award. His leadership and innovation articles have appeared in Medical Economics and Medscape.
Writing
Books, storytelling, and humor
Peter has written three published books. Doc-Related: A Physician’s Guide to Fixing Our Ailing Health Care System and Masterful Mingling were Amazon bestsellers; he also wrote The Smart Investor’s Guide to Investing in a Volatile Market.
He created Doc-Related, a healthcare comic strip that uses humor to examine the realities of modern medicine. His debut novel, A City Without Accidents, is forthcoming.
